Can I have a move out inspection after the date on my lease has expired?

My rental unit lease ends on October 20th. I contacted my property manager to have a move-out inspection on the 20th but was told, he could not make it that day and asked to do it on the 21st. Is it okay to do the move-out inspection after the date of expired lease?

Yes, it is possible but you have to realize that you could potentially be liable for one extra day of rent if you do not turn in your keys on the 20th (unless you get written confirmation otherwise from the property manager). Also, having the inspection after the tenancy ends practically means you will not have the opportunity to repair or clean anything.

Take photo and video of the entire property. Have someone else come with you to verify your photos/video and be a witness, if there is problem down the road. Further, write the manager an email that your lease ends on the 20th and that you do not want to be charged, if the manager wants to do the inspection on the 21st, then you should not be charged for the delay. Ask the manager where you can deliver the keys on the 20th to make sure you have properly delivered possession of the apartment. If there is an inspection take a witness as well as photos/video.
