How to adjust status in removal proceedings

I am in removal proceedings since 2009, USCIS denied my asylum application and referred to Immigration Court. Since then my case in court has been lost a couple of times and judge did not show up to a master hearing for no reason. My individual asylum hearing is finally scheduled for May 2015. Well, while my case was pending in court I married US citizen. Marriage did not go well because of abuse and we separated. I filed the I-360 and it was approved today. My lawyer says that the only option that I have right now is wait till my final hearing date (which is next year) and then ask the IJ to terminate the case. This seems a little odd to me. Do I really have 1 and only option and have to wait for another half a year?

Immigration law is so contemplated and intricate that you MUST schedule an appointment with an immigration attorney. That is all that they specialize on and to not use one is like performing surgery on yourself - not a good idea.
