In the state of Alabama, is it legal to post threats of any kind (mental abuse, verbally, etc.) on facebook?

An office manager got fired from my job one for a long time negative attitude and ultimately for posting on facebook and breaking company policy by including the name of the company on an extremely negative facebook post. She is also friends with MANY of the clients through facebook so it definitely does not look good for the company. She is posting all kinds of negative comments about the situation and is making indirect verbal threats to the employee, we know who it is intended for although she does not put a name to it. Can she do that or can there be some kind of legal action taken against it?

If the comments rise to the level of defamation your company could certainly both sue her and get an injunction against her posts. You will want to discuss your situation with a lawyer in more detail. Use the "Find a Lawyer" tab on this site and choose someone from your locale. Most lawyers on offer a free phone consultation.

Report the threats to the police for possible prosecution. Warn the person you will sue for libel and slander and if they do not desist, consult with a local attorney and follow through.
