My visa expired on 30th sept 2014 and its in extension process. Now it is in RFE status . Next month i have to travel from chicago to NY. Please let me know can I travel with expired visa from one state to another state within US.
Yes, you may under the scenario noted. Just carry your passport and a copy of the receipt for the extension filing with you; although you will probably not be subject to any inquiry on a domestic flight relating to your immigration status. Always better to be safe than sorry, however.
as long as you have a valid photo ID you be able to travel within the U.S. without a hitch by carrying your passport and extension filing notice just in case you are stopped at any inspection point. unless your extension is denied you are OK, and your stay is authorized.

Absolutely you can! Make sure to have a valid national passport, in addition to a state issued photo ID if traveling by land, with, of course a copy of the receipt of your currently still pending extension application. If traveling by air, a valid state issued photo ID will suffice.
If you applied for a renewal prior to expiration and review/approval is pending you can travel but make sure you carry 797, RFE request and other pertinent paperwork with you. Your immigration attorney can advise you in detail.
I certainly hope that you talked to the company's immigration attorney and obtained a copy of the extension receipt ... and information on the automatic 120 day extension of your status.
Stay away from NON-ATTORNEYS in HR and have a safe trip.
You can travel domestically ( within in U.S.) while your request for the extension of your L-1B status is on file with USCIS. You are considered to be in in lawful status during that time. You do not need for the visa to be valid as long as you are in lawful status.
