I received a speeding ticket in GA but can't afford to pay the fine. How do I handle this when I go to court?

I am a full time student and don't work many hours doing the school year. This is my first ticket.

When you go to the court hearing tell the judge your situation and ask to be permitted to make payment arrangements. It's usually not a problem.

When you go to court ask the judge for a continuance so you can have time to get the money together. Please keep in mind if you're under 21 years old a speeding ticket can have a serious impact on your driver's license. Whether you are over, or under, 21 years old ask the prosecutor to reduce your speed to 14 mph over the posted speed limit to keep the charge off your driving history. Speak to the court regarding alternatives to fines including community service. If you have already been sentenced work with probation to convert your fine to community service hours. Keep in mind that the longer you are on probation, the more probationary fees you may have to pay.
