Submitting a I-864. Answering Part 4, Question 5 "Country of Domicile" what to answer?

3 views 3 answers
I have been living in Thailand for the last 8 years and have never owed any property there. I have maintained a US address but do not own any property, have continued to file my Federal returns every year but not any state returns, voted in all the National Elections, have an active US driver license, have several US banks, US credit union and US brokerage accounts, entitled to social security and I am currently on Medicare so is my domicile US or Thailand? Thanks for any helpful advice

If you live in Thailand, then this is your domicile. And only people domiciled in the United States can be sponsors for the affidavit. The exception is the returning citizen who has demonstrated that they are in the process of re-establishing their domicile in the US (and usually is bringing their family home with them).
