That's not the case number of your case. That is probably information that you are getting from the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department Inmate Information website. They no longer put the actual case numbers in that system.
I am changing the category of this question to criminal defense, because this question has nothing to do with legal ethics.
you are probably looking at the booking screen from the LA Sheriff's website. The nines mean that at that time no case has been filed yet. That is not uncommon, since most cases are filed after the arrest. People who are arrested on warrants will see a taste number instead of the 9.
now is the time to hire an experienced and top rated lawyer from the site to contact the prosecutor and try and block the filing of charges.

You are probably looking at the Sheriff's website, not the court website. The Sheriff will not have a case number, (ane will not update their website even after a case is filed). Check with the court website.
You are probably are looking at inmate locator and the person you are looking up was recently arrested. It takes sometime to get a court case number, so when the person is arrested and awaiting arriagnment, the inmate locator will put 999999 as the case number until they get the actual case number. An attorney can call and get the case number from the court clerk.
