Do I meed to pay for my husband to get a trial?
Anonymous3 views4 answers
My husband is in jail for domestic violence and has a third degree felony charge.. I payed his lawyer 4,000 and now he told me he needs 5,000 for the trial but will try not to waist all of it. My husband told me that we dont have to pay for the trial? Is this true? I dont want to deposit that amount on the lawyer account and then lose it. Im confused...
If you paid 4, was it nonrefundable or to be used and returned? The additional 5 is not bad from a crim trial and it too depends on your contract if you get money back. I dont understand your husbands comment.
There is no way we can second guess what the conversation and agreement was between your husband and his attorney. The numbers don't look way out of line. What I can say is I have never heard of a lawyer saying the client does not have to pay for trial. Get your husband and his lawyer together and ket them hash it out.
You need to refer to the contact. Most of the time there will be a fee for cases that ate disposed of without the necessity of setting the case for trial and additional fees if the case is set for trial. The fees you mention are reasonable for a felony level offense. If anything they are low. I don't know what your husband is talking about.
I'm confused....is your husband in jail for domestic violence against you? I would make sure you speak with your husband's attorney before giving him/her any money and read the retainer agreement carefully.
