Is the landlord required to fix my broken washer or dryer that came with the property when I rented it?

One of the reasons I rented this place was because it had a washer and dryer, no where in my lease does it say I am liable to fix it if it breaks down or pay any additional costs to use it, and no where in my lease does it say I have a washer or dryer, but I did not think that needed to be stated anyway, as it came with the property. Isn't the landlord required to fix broken things that came with the place if I did not damage them? My landlord tried telling me it must have been left here from the last tenant and he is not going to fix it. So I asked if it is not his and I fix it can I keep it, but he disagreed to that too. So what are my rights in this situation?

If it was in the unit and working he must repair or replace or be in breach of the lease. The unit can be replaced with a working used unit. You have to give written notice according to the statute linked below. Give him notice and if he doesn't fix it, give him the notice of intent to with 59.18.090 and 59.18.100 Good Luck

Your landlord is required to maintain any appliances that he provided in reasonably good working order. RCW 59.18.060(8). It is unusual for a tenant to provide their own appliances or leave them behind, so I suspect this is the landlord's unit and he must maintain it. If challenged, you would need to prove it is a landlord-provided appliance.
