ON such a serious charge related to your son's defense, it would be wise to limit disclosure of any information that could implicate him further even if that information is going to the State Bar. In other words, you should consult with an ethics attorney who can research your specific facts and advise you on the specifics of what to send to any regulating entity.
The state bar is not interesting in relitigating the underlying case. An ethical complaint and the matter for which you hired the attorney are, for the most part, unrelated. You need to give the state bar some context to understand how the attorney violated an ethical rule, but that would never entail handing over the case file. Before you do anything with the state bar, consult with ethics counsel to determine if you really have a basis for a complaint. At a minimum, read your state's attorney rules of professional conduct so you can identify, specifically, which rules your attorney may habe violated. Then supply that information that shows that, specific, rule was violated.
Change attorneys--fine. Complain t about the attorney--fine. But do not give information that is of a confidential nature that can be used in your son's defense until the case is over.
