Can I sue a salon/stylist in canada?

Personal Injury 2 views 5 answers
I went in for a 1 inch trim. I have long shiny thick straight and blonde hair that reaches halfway passed my bottom. I asked for a 1 inch trim three times, and the last time was when I was in the chair and I motioned with my thumb and index finger 1 inch. The stylist cut off 10 inches. My hair is all uneven, and I need a further haircut to even it out. I have had my long beautiful hair my entire life, and I was told that my hair is one in 1 million. I have not stopped crying since Saturday, and I have my hair tucked inside my turtleneck so no one can see my shame. I have lost my identity my beauty my self-esteem. I am profoundly devastated and saddened. Do I have a case? Thank you in advance, Janice.

It sounds like your hair is still pretty long; certainly long enough to even out the length to end your shame. No reputable attorney would take this case however. While they were careless in their trim, hair grows back. One in a million or not, the cut is not permanent.

Two potential hurdles come immediately to mind: do you have a corroborating witness and didn't you realize more than an inch was being cut? You should contact qualified counsel asap. Good luck

In my opinion, you would be well-served to get professional help, just not from a lawyer.

I don't practice law in Canada, but that's where the venue would be, so Canadian law would apply. I'd be very surpriwsed if you could sue for anything more than your money back. Also, and I don't mean to sound unkind, but your description of the consequences to you could be received as over-reacting: you still have long hair (though not as long) and I see no reason it would not grow back.
