How do I file a motion for a protective order to enjoin the county from releasing records.

A person is asking the county to release all records for Level 1 sex offenders in Thurston county. The sheriff has advised obtaining a signed order by a judge enjoining disclosure. I'd like to get that but I don't know how. I'm out of work and cannot afford a lawyer.

You still need to consult with a lawyer and seek proper advise. Perhaps some legal clinics or legal aid can help if you cannot afford a lawyer.

You will have to retain an experienced civil attorney to file such a motion for you.

Start with your law library in your county and ask the librarian to point out references regarding public disclosure laws.

First, I will join others in saying the following: "seek the advice and counsel of an attorney." It is unclear if you are one of the Level 1 sex offenders or a related victim of one of the level one sex offenders. Actually, your status doesn't necessarily matter. However, RCW 42.56 (Public Records Act) allows for the release of many and varied types of information in this context. There are exceptions, but many of the items that may be referenced in this situation may already be in the Thurston County Superior Court files. By definition all of these documents are open to disclosure. This is not a simple area of the law, again I say seek counsel.
