I filed a small claim, but the defendant disappeared. How can I find him?

The police seems do not want to help. The court asked for him to be served in person. Background check sites could not find his current address. I just know his name and phone number.
He has criminal record. He just bought a new car and bought insurance.
He provided the employer his mother's address.
He stole my money. The police told they cannot do anything except if I have video showed he took it. But I have proof he borrowed my money. So I filed a small claim.
Thank you for your time.

A private investigator or a skip tracer can try to locate the person. Alternatively, if you know where he is going to be at any time, you can get a private process server to deliver the documents. It does not have to be his home or workplace.
My colleague is correct that you will need to find a private investigator or skip tracer to locate the person. Understand that under the small claims rules, you normally need to file the lawsuit where the defendant resides. So, if the defendant has moved to Colorado Springs, you will need to file in El Paso County small claims court.
