Are there any services for people with limited income to use to fill out an RJI for matrimonial?

“I have been separated for 2 1/2 years from my husband. I spent $11,000 in legal fees to get child support and custody . The divorce is still contested after all this time. I had done all the financials and divorce agreement paper work with my 2 previous attorneys. My ex and his lawyer were not willing to negotiate at all with us. So, now I really want to be divorced. The ex has sold marital property, filled bankruptcy and lost his job. I just want to settle this divorce, but unfortunately, I have no funds to hire a lawyer. I was looking into filing a RJI . Any suggestions? Any where I can turn for help to file it properly? Thanks

You don't need a lawyer to complete the RJI - all the forms are online at the court's website. You may, however, need a lawyer to proceed with the contested case. Thus, you should schedule a consult with a Dutchess/Westchester Divorce attorney.

The RJI is a simple form - but there is a pro se office in the courthouse that may be able to help.

If a Judge has already been assigned to the case an RJI would have already been filed. If you need to file it, the Court may have a pro se Clerk who can help you.

Depending upon your circumstances, you may apply for and receive for a pro bono attorney. Check with mid Hudson legal services, as they may be able to direct you to the appropriate forms to apply. You can also check on line or in a google search for a pro bono attorney in your area. Good luck.
