No jail but you owe the money. If you don't pay it will come out of your social security check. And, yes, I had two guys call me in December because social security was taking a hunk of their money for past due child support. If you inherit money, then the party can "grab" your inheritance - I had a client have that happen to him many years ago and he was really upset.

Hire a lawyer, immediately. Don't represent yourself.

No jail time at this point. At this hearing the court will try to determine exactly how much you owe and how much you will pay monthly. If you don't answer and you don't show up then you will have no input in determining how much you owe or how much will be taken every month. Don't ignore it, call an attorney tomorrow so they can file an answer for you. Good luck and have great night.

Contempt with punishment by jail time would be off the table, confirming child support judgment is on the table with all the remedies that go with collecting a child support judgment

See a lawyer ASAP. You still owe this money to your ex. An order may have already been entered after you failed to answer. You need to see a lawyer ASAP (probably Monday, because of the holiday).

All attorneys herein have given excellent guidance. I concur with them. But figure how to take care of what you can to your children. You owe it to them. The best thing you an the mother can do is figure how you can honor your duty to your children and their mother. Good luck. Consult counsel also.
