If i transfer f1 schools after a year, will i still get my work permit?
Anonymous2 views3 answers
I've been told that I can get a work permit after a year of being under f1 visa if I get to present the financial hardship I'm undergoing. If I transfer schools after one year, will I still get my work permit or will I have to wait another year at the school I just transferred to?
Thanks.

You can only get (apply for) a work permit after you graduate, to work in the same field as your studies for one whole year. "economic hardship" will most likely land you paid employment (part-time) in campus, whichever school you may happen to be at at the time, once you convincgly explain your financial predicament to your school's DSO.
The hardship work permit is tough to get.
It is even more difficult if you change schools.
Why? Because you just convinced the new school that you have the money to pay their tuition ... that doesn't 'fit' with a claim of economic hardship.
You can only get a "work permit" once you graduate and apply for one = "optional practical training". Whether you get a permit to work part time on campus during your studies will be up to your school to decide.
