My mother (yes my mother) is being indicative. She is suing me for 10,000. Shes very upset with me because I bought a car and didn't take her with me on a trip. So in return she kick me out of a property that was owned by her and my dad. He passed away and didn't leave a will. After I left, I left he's belongings to her. Just took my stuff. Now she suing me for that amount of money and she listed I items that I dont know of. I'm sure that they were he's. They weren't hers, because she hasn't lived in that house since I was 15. They weren't legally separated. I never had a legal document after he passed. But only when he was alive I had power of attorney. So I'm not sure if I need to represent myself.

Litigants are not required to have lawyers in small claims court; however, if your opponent is represented by counsel, as a practical matter, you too should have a lawyer. Small claims case have a way of getting out of hand. If you do have to hire a lawyer, the possibility exists for you to request and receive an award of attorney fees.

I doubt that a small claim court can handle a claim in the amount of $10,000.00. At least you shall consulate a lawyer first.
