I recently moved to the USA on an f2 visa. Are there any chances I can change my status to an h1b visa? Is it legal to change my visa status to an h1b?

Yes, you can change your status depending on you finding an employer willing to petition for you. Generally, the window to file begins on April 1st. Please note, that the cap fills up quick.
