Can someone share my personal information without my consent?

Lets say I have a couple of friends who I have in my address book and of course they saved me in theirs. There might be the obvious information about me like my phone number and my email address but maybe even more, like my sex, birthday, second email address, work address, private address and so on, depending on how organized my friends are.
When one of my friends installs an app that has permissions to read their contacts, that app (like Facebook/Whatsapp or Google itself) will most probably grab all the information it can get, upload it to their servers and might match it to other information. At least I have no way of controlling it.
Now some company has all the information about me (which I carefully protected) perfectly arranged and preformatted by my friend or collegue.
Even though I don't usually practice in this area of law I've been very interested in it since I have young children and have noticed that they seem to be very care less about information that they share with their friends both through social media and through the information sharing apps on their phones. At the present time any information that you voluntarily share with anyone can be passed on to anyone they so choose intentionally or unintentionally and you have very little legal recourse other than when you were contacted with solicitations or requests by various companies to ask to be put on their no contact lists. As I tell my children anything you say or do online on Facebook on any social media whatsoever regardless of the alleged privacy that these services claim is fair and free game for anyone who wishes to spend the time effort and energy to find it. And this includes snap chats and instant grams and all the rest. Unless or until there is a national Internet information code it is my opinion that there is no reasonable expectation of privacy on anything that is shared electronically. (Scary isn't it)
If you share your information with others, then you have not "carefully protected" your details. To carefully protect those details, you'd not give those details out via Whatsapp, Google Contacts, etc...
