I want to move out. My parents are constantly fighting. I want to live peacefully. I have a job and enough money to go to my own place but my parents keep telling it's not right for a girl to go out on her own and that it's not part of our culture. What should I do?
I understand that you are in a difficult position with your family; however, this is not really a legal question. If you are 18, you have the ability to make decisions as an adult, but you need to be prepared that there could be consequences (in terms of lack of family/emotional support) if your parents do not agree with those decisions.
Once you turn 18, you have every legal right to move out of your parents' home.
You should carefully consider the consequences of this decision. How will your parents treat you if you do move out against their wishes? What about college, transportation, medical insurance? Will they cut you off completely? Would they agree to family counseling to work out the family problems, including but not limited to your desire to move out and the constant fighting?
If you decide to move out, it may be an option to move your personal items while they are not home to avoid a larger conflict.
At the end of the day, only you can decide what you should do.
Good luck!
Understandably, moving out is a big step for any individual to take. However, whether you choose to move out is entirely up to you. As an 18-year-old, you are legally an adult and able to make your own decisions. Therefore, if you decide to move out, there is nothing that your parents can do to stop you. Ultimately, the decision is yours.
Legally you have a right to move out. However, this could effect your relationship with your parents. Like any other important decision, it is best not to rush into it. Do some research, develop a budget and then a plan for when you will move.
