Okay I recently stopped my welfare benefits, the reason why is because I am getting Inheritance money my father has left me. And the main reason i stopped it cause i didnt want to get in trouble and collect money from the government . I was only on for about a year! Any ways, so I called them up and i told them i want to stop my welfare benefits and they asked me why?. Well, I told them because, "I am about to get a job and I am getting life insurance money my father left me. So they asked me, if I were the beneficiary. My concern is that why would they ask me if I were the beneficiary and my most concern is can the state of California take inheritance funds away. What are the inheritance rights in the state of California? Also, can they take all my money from my bank account?

Your concern should be whether or not you got benefits to which you were not entitled. You do not say how long you've been getting insurance proceeds as beneficiary. If it has been more than a year, the agency may be investigating because you've been getting welfare for a year. In many states, if you received any benefits to which you are not entitled, you will be required to return any benefits received. You may have the right to appeal the determination. In many states, if you cannot afford to repay the amount of money you owe in full, you can arrange to pay monthly. There are a great deal of people in need of welfare benefits these days so enforcement on getting repayment has been going up, at least in my state. Check with a CA lawyer in your locale to discuss more of the details to see if you want to appeal the ruling. Good luck to you. God bless.
