16yrs old, pregnant with my 24yr old boyfriend. Can he get in trouble for this?

I am 16. I was 16 when I got pregnant. He's 24 and will be 25 when the baby is born. What I'm trying to figure out and understand is, will he get into trouble for this? It was consensual. We haven't told anyone yet because we want to make sure all of our bases are covered.

It appears as though the age of consent is 16. If you got pregnant when you were already 16, then you should be in the clear. However, any sex before you were 16 was illegal. If your family is angered by your pregnancy, they could go to the police/DA if they believe sex was happening while you were 15. Would not be as easily proven, but there could still be liability.

If you were 16 at the time, then it was all perfectly legal in the state of Georgia. Of course, the baby better not come before you turn 16 and 9 months...

He cannot get charged with statutory rape because the age of consent in Georgia is 16. However, he could be charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor or custodial interference. Both of these charges are misdemeanors.

I believe your boyfriend(?) is safe as to the age of consent in Georgia. Note what another source says concerning the "age of consent": The Georgia legal Age of Consent for sexual contact is 16 years old. There are a total of thirty-one states that have set their age of consent at 16, the lowest age of consent in any state. If a person is between 14 and 16 years of age and the person convicted of statutory rape is younger then 18 and is no more than four years older than the victim, such person shall be guilty of a misdemeanor (instead of a felony). Your BF does not qualify under that exemption, however. Georgia Close-In-Age Exemption: Georgia has a close-in-age exemption, also known as a "Romeo and Juliet law", to the legal age of consent. This provision allows partners who are close in age, or both under the Georgia age of consent, to engage in consensual sex without fear of prosecution under Georgia age of consent regulations. Again, BF does not qualify for exemption. Again, quoting from another source: The Age of Consent is the age at which a person is deemed by Georgia law to be capable of consenting to, and engaging in, sexual acts. Anyone who engages in sexual activity of any type with a partner under the applicable Age of Consent is breaking the law and can be charged with crimes ranging from a misdemeanor to a felony (statutory rape) depending on the jurisdiction in which they are prosecuted. (Georgia's specific laws on the Age of Consent can be found above.) Assuming you were already age 16 when the tryst began, BF is not in hot water with the law. But, how about your parent's (and, maybe his)?? Your age differences are signifcant, as you are still an adolesent, while your BF is considered an adult in every way except...Well, I won't go there. Continuing on; In most states, the travel or transportation of a minor over state lines with the intention of engaging in sexual activity is in itself a severe misdemeanor or felony. As a result, it is generally not possible to evade a state's age of consent rules by travelling to a different state. If you ever have engaged in coitus while in another state at an age less than 16--even by one day--, BF has violated a serious laws; state and federal. Regardless of whether or not the sexual acts were consensual and depending on the charges, conviction can carry penalties ranging from one to fifty years in prison and registration as a sex offender. That's the law. Are you planning on getting married? If not, you will be automatically the custodial caretaker of the child. That's a tremendous burden on a 16 or 17 year-old such as yourself. Sex may be fun. But, trust me, the rest of isn't. It could become really messy if BF spilts on you. All the best to you and your child.

If you were 16 at the time that the baby was conceived your boyfriend should be free from any charges because the age of consent in Georgia is 16.
