I'm getting married in las Vegas but I live in new york. In the event of a divorce, do I have to get a divorce in las Vegas or in the state I reside in, new York. And also if I have to get a divorce on las Vegas, do they recognize a prenuptial agreement. My major worry is That my father is leaving me the house in his will. If he passes and I get the house will my spouse be entitled to half of it?

There are a few misconceptions to dispel. First, to answer the question you asked, "yes," NV recognizes prenuptials. See http://www.willicklawgroup.com/premarital_postnuptial_separation_marital_settlement. However, where you get married has nothing to do with where you would get divorced. That has to do with divorce jurisdiction, which usually is a matter of residence at the time of filing. For an explanation, see the article titled "The Basics of Family Law Jurisdiction," on the Published Works page of our firm web site, at http://www.willicklawgroup.com/published_works. If you are considering a prenuptial agreement, you should consult counsel where you live. You should probably seek consultation with an appropriate family law specialist. I would suggest starting your search with the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, which can be viewed at http://www.aaml.org. Good luck.
