Hi, I am an international student in Penn State University. Recently, I met some problem about housing contract. I had a chance to transfer from Penn State Harrisburg to the main campus. I have a one-year housing lease and I want to move out early. However, the housing office did not allow me to early terminate the lease and let me find someone else to sublease the contract. Before I signed the lease, they told me that they can help me to find a one sublease me contract, but now they let me find one, and of course i tried and cannot find any others. Now the office ask me to paid the rest of the rent and i cannot afford those large amount of money. What can i do?

Dear Penn State Student: I am licensed to practice law in New York, only. I do not practice in Pennsylvania. But I do know persons who lived off campus at Penn State. Did you check with the office of Student Affairs at: http://studentaffairs.psu.edu/offcampus/

A review of the lease is necessary. See a local landlord tenant attorney. You may be able to pay a smaller amount of what you owe by a settlement agreement. Take your lease agreement to an attorney for review. Good luck.
