I was arrested for possession of illegal substances and drug paraphernalia. I'm legitimately not a drug user but was in the house of a (at the time) friend going through serious issues. I just got summoned to a pre-indictment conference and have no idea what to do. I am alone and naive to all this and am longer in contact with this "friend" who is more savvy to this stuff. I need serious help. I'm a harmless person who was at the wrong place at the wrong time. What do I do?

If you can afford an experienced criminal trial attorney retain one ASAP. If not apply for the PD. The State must prove possession. That does not only mean physical possession. The easy to understand definition of a complex legal concept is you need to know what it was, where it was and be able to exercise dominion and control of the item. The State also must show that the item was properly seized so these facts must be examined also. Your "friend“ can likely easily get you out of this by taking the weight.
