What are the consequences for petty theft for a minor, being his first time?

The total price of the merchandise was $130, this was the first time I've ever done anything wrong in the eyes of the law, and I feel very guilty.I make average grades, and go to high school everyday, hardly ever missing. I am very worried that they will make me go to an alternative school, or send me to a detention center. I am holding on to the hope that I will be held to probation, and community service. I have a court date soon. Thank you in advance.

I assume you are under 18 if you are in high school. You should be eligible for Pre-Trial Intervention, which will keep you out of an alternative school or detention.

As a juvenile, you have many more options than if the case was in adult court. You need to talk to a lawyer in your area that U.S. familiar with the potential programs (like a diversion) program, that might be beneficial to you. Good luck.

There are several programs that are available in Okloosa County that probation officers use to work with first offender teens to help them avoid adjudication. My office is located in Fort Walton Beach if you and a parent or guardian would like to discuss this further and work with an attorney during this process.

The consequences go far beyond the criminal court case you are facing. You are probably now in a retailer's database for thieves. There is no limit as to what they can do with the information in their databases. Will you be denied a job many years from now because of this? Many people regard theft as a crime of moral turpitude, and this can effect you for the rest of your life.
