How long do you need to be separated BEFORE filing for divorce. Some states require you to be separated 1yr.

I used to live in NC. And in that state the law requires that before you can even file for divorce you must physically be living in separate places for a period of 1 entire yr. I have a friend that lives in TN so I was asking for them.

There is no such requirement in Ohio however if he lives in Tennessee the law there may be different.

There is no requirement that husband and wife must live separate and apart for one year prior to filing for divorce. However, living separate and apart for one year is a ground for divorce.
