Can someone sue me for a fire caused by faulty wires in an a/c after i service it?

Before i did any work on the unit i told him that i was not a license contractor. I check the unit and there where some burned wires in the inside unit which needed to be replace, he then said to replace the wires. A couple of months after i get a letter from the insurance company asking for money because i serviced it last although i did not give a receipt to my acquaintance cause he only gave me gas and new rewire money. I dont even know if i was the last one there.

Anybody can sue you for anything. The burden of proof is on them to show that you did the work, and you did it negligently and you caused the fire. Whether they can do that is the next question. Depending on how much they are suing you for, you probably need to get a local lawyer to defend you. Good luck

The short answer is, Yes, you can be sued for the work you performed on the AC unit if the owner alleges you negligently or improperly performed the work. Working as an unlicensed contractor is also a criminal offense in Florida. See attached statute. You should consult with a local attorney.

The prior two answers are exactly correct. Not only can they sue you but if I were representing the homeowner or the insurance company I would insist upon including you as a named defendant. Of course the plaintiff has the burden of proving that you were "negligent." You need to hire a good lawyer ASAP to defend this case lest you wind up with a large judgment against you.
