My question is - how long would that Misdemeanor for MIP stay on record & how that effects a teen?

Provided you are dealing with a juvenile court, the record should be closed once she turns 18. Things get very different once you move up to adult court, so hopefully she will take this as a lesson learned. Contact an attorney who practices regularly in the area where she was arrested for a consultation. He or she can walk you through the procedure and suggest whether it is better to pay the fine or come to court.

A juvenile conviction typically will not follow a person when they turn 18. However, if this is a matter that is being handled in regular court, then a conviction will follow her and will affect her ability to get school loans, future jobs and college admissions. You need to speak with a Mississippi criminal defense attorney immediately so that her rights can be protected.

Mississippi law differs from a lot of states. Consult a local attorney.

If it is not a DUI, your attorney may work a plea bargain with the State to have it expunged from her record. The emancipation age in MS is 21 years.
