I am setting up a non profit corporation in California. Does the name of the corporation have to include the words "A Non-Profit Public Benefit Corporation" ? Or, can I just call it ___________, Inc. ?

If you are talking about the articles, which are different than standard articles of incorporation, then yes. Other than on your articles of incorporation, you can just you Inc. (or corp. incorporated, corporation, etc as you choose.)

I would only add, you may want to include "non-profit" in some shape or form in the legal title of the entity as doing so may help to build to credibility if you are planning on accepting donations, as your potential donors will want to quickly know you are a non-profit, ideally with 501(c)(3) federal tax exempt status and CA tax exempt status.

The corporate name on the Articles in California does NOT need to include the word "nonprofit" or "non-profit". The name is generally referred to in Article I and the fact that the corporation is organized under the Nonprofit Public Benefit Law is referenced in Article II. This structure is reflected in the SOS's form as well at http://bpd.cdn.sos.ca.gov/corp/pdf/articles/art... . When you typically use the word "nonprofit" is in drafting and executing a contract. The corporation is then referred to as "[Name of Company], a California Nonprofit Public Benefit Corporation.

Since the NFL is a non-profit, I would guess, no, but, others will chime in shortly to set me straight, I'm sure...
