thr are no classes in my town and ventura is definitely too far by bicycle. can i take online courses since i have no way to get to the classes in ventura. bus service is unreliable and with my myasthenia graivis i couldnt last that long on a bus before my legs wiuld collapse
The DMV does not give credit for online courses. Perhaps there could be something worked out for the court's requirements, based upon your medical condition, but as I said the DMV only gives credit for your license for in person certified courses in CA.
Online classes will not satisfy the California DMV and you would not get your license back until you complete a California approved program. If this is your first DUI, then you should be able to drive to and from the program and work once you have served a 30 day suspension, have proof of enrollment in the DUI program sent to the DMV and have an SR 22 filed, you will get a restricted license. Without reviewing your time line, you can do it so you enroll toward the end of the 30 days so that you can drive to the program. Worse case scenario, you will have to go to 4 meetings with UBER driving you!
Remember, if this is a Ventura case, you are on formal probation and were ordered to enroll in the program within 21 days of your conviction. Failure to do so will result in a VOP hearing. Let your attorney know what is going on and go back to court to get another referral to the program so you can arrange for rides until you get your restricted license.
Yes, with court approval but you'll never be eligible to drive in the state of California again.
Ready to give up your drivers license for the rest of your life? I suggest you taKe a cab.
This is California's "one shoe fits all" approach to governing. Many people aren't capable of easily accessing the drinking driver programs and therefore unable to regain a driving privilege without undue and unnecessary hardship. These programs aren't so engaging or instructive that citizens shouldn't be allowed to do them on-line, not to mention those from out-of-state that have absolutely no legal access to resolve their obligations.
If the DMV would wake up and create an online class it would lessen the crowding at the schools and allow the DMV to lessen its burden on California's budget crisis. Think "Go to Meeting" think outside the box and give people like yourself the chance to satisfy your obligations without ruining your life.
Unfortunately in California online classes will not satisfy the DMV requirements. Even if a court will allow you take the online course the DMV will not re-issue your driver's license and your driving privileges only taking an online course. There is no way around this requirement. If you want to regain your driving privileges in California you must find a way to physically get to the classes. I am sure the closest school has other people that are coming from where you live. I would suggest calling the closest school to your location and finding out if you can share a ride with someone. Good luck.
