DUI in AZ 3 years ago. did classes and moved to TX 5 months after DUI occurred. i haven't driven since moving to TX (almost 3 years) and i recently finished paying the fines off. i'm going to be getting a car soon and want to get my license back. do I need to reinstate my AZ license before trying to get a TX license? do I still need to obtain sr22 insurance? and do I need sr22 insurance for both states?
You probably don't need to reinstate your AZ license, but you very likely must clear up any suspension issues/requirements, or anything that would keep you from getting an ordinary AZ license.
I am not licensed in Texas or Arizona, but I think that to get your Texas license, you need to make sure your status is good with Arizona. This means you not only paid all fines and did all classes as required by the court there, but that you otherwise successfully completed all terms of probation and there is nothing else putting your AZ license on hold. Then TX, I think, will be able to issue you a license with payment of the correct fee and showing proof of insurance.

My experience with TX DPS is that your standing with other states, will be taken into consideration. Thus, you will need to get your AZ license reinstated before you can get a TX license. Contact both DPS offices to determine SR 22 requirements.
