Tenant never did last walk through inspection even after we requested. Now he's charging me for many fixes. What can I do?

Right before we cleared our apartment I asked for an inspection, one of the landlords assistant came over walked through every room real quick and said everything looked great and they would give me a call. Nothing was signed no form was filled out. Now they're charging me for paint and other "fixes" and for cleaning. I was more than willing to fix any problems, but they didn't give me the opportunity. I cleaned before leaving, when I received the apartment they gave it to me completely dirty I hired someone to clean it prior to moving in. Can they charge me for cleaning as well?

Tenants should always request a walk-through in person, and a written confirmation of the condition of the apt. Further, I hope that you have a copy of your initial condition report stating how dirty it was. If you want your funds back, you're going to have to go to small claims. You will definitely want to have the receipt form the person who cleaned at move in. If you left it in a better condition than you found it, the landlord has no basis to keep the funds. Good luck and I am sorry for your situation. It sucks.

They can charge you whatever it takes (within reason) to get the unit to the condition it was delivered to you, absent general wear and tear. Good luck.
