Can I work during green card process?

Hi, I am in the process of getting my green card from marriage. I am getting married next week and probably file all the documents sometime next week. But I am under OPT right now and it expires on May 21. Can I still work before I get my new work permit from my marriage while my green card is in the process? Thank you

I suggest that your soon-to-be-spouse file a petition on your behalf as soon as you are married. The EAD processing can take up to 90 days, therefore, you will have to refrain from working from 5/21/15 until your new EAD application is approved. You should consider working with an immigration attorney to avoid any unnecessary delays caused by mistakes in filing.

It is taking 90 days minimum to process adjustment of status. We just filed one in February and her OPT runs out in May too. I am hoping she gets everything done before. Try to get all the Petitions filled out before you get married so that you can just turn everything over right away. I'm hoping you will still have a student visa to stay in the country for longer than to May.
