Can I get a new lawyer even though my case is nearing mediation?

I am a client of a personal injury lawyer. The law firm that I have been working with, that provided my lawyer has not been taking my case too seriously even though their evaluation and the insurance company's evaluation of my case are in the high 6-7 figures. My lawyers have missed deadlines and have not informed me about thing that are of substantial importance. The case is nearing the mediation date. The law firm is only getting paid if I win the case. The current total of the fees that I would have to pay if I did not follow though with them are at $10,328. How does it work if I "fire" them? Can i get another company to step in? When I was originally looking for lawyers I had other law firms that wanted to take the case.

Yes you can fire them. However, you should interview and line up a new local lawyer before you do so. Interview several local lawyers and pick one w/a wealth of real experience and one you can comfortably work with...make sure it's a lawyer who listens to you. You can find a lawyer using the "find a lawyer" tool or doing an internet search. Tell them you have a lawyer and you want them to deal w/any lawyer's "lien" as part of your willingness to retain them. best wishes

Mr. Friedman gives good advice. There are plenty of good lawyers in your area who would be willing to help you out.
