F-1 Visa renewal after a DUI conviction

Hello, I'm junior studying electrical engineering and unfortunately, I had a DUI conviction in 2012. I paid all my fines and completed the alcohol program. my VISA is going to expire in November, and I have to go to my home country in the summer. I know that I have to renew my VISA in order to re-enter the United states after summer. My question is, am I going to face any difficulties renewing my visa? For example, I'm going to be denied of visa renewal? If yes, Is there a way to avoid that? I need at least two more years to get my degree!!

Although you 'should' be OK .... I recommend that you get certified copies of all court/police documents and show them to an immigration attorney before you leave the US.

If there are other issues, such as driving on a suspended license, in California this can be considered as a crime of moral turpitude which affects immigration. Your f1 visa should be valid for the time you are in school pursuing your degree. If you are going to come out of status, you should consult with an attorney to perhaps file for advance parole, if necessary. Otherwise, you might have to reapply in your home country for a new F1.

Whenever there is a alcohol related incident, it raises an inadmissibility issue. You might be subject to some tests.
