Yes it is a thing - if someone thinks you are trying to get more meds than you are entitled to. The thought is that you are abusing prescription drugs.

Pharmacy shopping means visiting multiple pharmacies to have prescriptions filled. This practice has been the cause of many deaths. You may want to read the 2012 article titled: "Doctor and Pharmacy Shopping for Controlled Substances". It is sobering.
