Tenant left water running on high and went away and didn't report a leak before leaving!
I received a leak alert from DEP that my water usage was much higher than usual and it gave the days of the overage. I also printed the chart they provided showing it's 4X higher than standard usage. This started the day after I told the tenant I was suing for damages and today is the 6th day and it's still running. The tenant was there and reported no leaks and he's been gone 3 days with it still running. There was no response from the tenant after emailing him. He also abused the heat. There's a trial next week in a residential holdover for something else he won't fix. Would it help at all in evicting him to get the police and a locksmith there to turn off the water and document it was left on? How do I get my money back from the tenant for this cost? Would be grateful for any advice.
