Other than to say who ever can get the best deal on health care insurance for your kids should do so, there is no "right" answer. Under the Florida Child Support Guidelines, the payment of health insurance is considered in calculating the appropriate amount of child support. The last issue regarding the soon to be ex-wife wanted husband to pay her health insurance, is highly unlikely, as once you are divorced, she won't be eligible for family coverage. Generally, both parents are considered responsible for coverage. It likely would be determined based either on state guidelines or some other such formula that takes into account the relative abilities of each parent to contribute and how much each has to contribute.

As has already been mentioned, there is no one right answer. You should always go with the best combination of lower cost and good coverage. While child support may go down if the paying parent has the insurance, they will have higher out of pocket costs.

I'm not sure if you are stating that the Wife is requesting the Husband pay for her insurance on her family plan, or that the Husband insure the wife through his own plan. The first is an alimony issue, the second won't happen, as insurance companies usually will not continue to cover ex-spouses. As to who should cover the children, I agree with my colleagues that the answer will take into account both the cost and quality of coverage.
