My mother passed away in 2013 and her husband has kept all the utilities in my mothers name...is this legal?

My mom fought a long hard battle with cancer, sadly she lost her fight. While she was in the hospital her husband never came to see her, did nothing to help her and while I slept in her room until the moment she left this world I promised I would take care of her unfinished business. My mom signed over power of attorney so that I had complete control over her body because she learned in the end that he did not care about her. I feel like someone that treated a person so poorly shouldn't be allowed to benefit from that person because they didn't pay bills in their own name. I'm sorry if I'm rambling but the pain from the loss of my mom is still deep. I want to also say that he (her husband) did not attend her funeral. If I come off a little angry it's caused by the hurt I feel for my mom.

I am sorry for your loss. Have you called the companies and let them know your mother passed away? You might start there. You need to find a way to let go of the anger as it will eat you alive. Your mother is beyond any hurt this man can do to her. Don't give him on moment of your time or thoughts as it likely is just a waste of time and effort on your part. Best wishes.

I agree with Ms Bratcher and believe the utilities will change this if notified.

Hello, Attorney Bratcher is correct, provide the utilities with copies of your Mom's death certificate to take the services out of her name. Your anger is justifiable, but not good for you. To deal with your hurt, you may want to consider grief counselling. You did your Mom proud! Good luck.
