Is there any way to dispute a Collision Report or to have an accident further investigated after the report has been published?

I was involved in a vehicle collision last month. A driver tried to pass me in the oncoming lane of traffic & sideswiped my driver side. Evidence at the scene, including dent direction, skid marks, etc support my version of events. The Officer on the scene obviously misunderstood what happened.. I was issued a ticket, which I contested & since had dismissed. The Report that was published is far from accurate. The location of the collision is incorrect. My statement to the Officer has been altered & one witness statement, that backs up my version of events has been completely omitted. I have started a complaint against the Officer with KPD. Is there any way to have the report ammended or further investigated?

For what purpose do you want the report amended?

If you were injured in a car accident, call a personal injury lawyer now for a free consultation. If you were not, contact your insurance company immediately and report the accident and they will handle it for you. Either way, you should contact your insurance. The ticket has been dismissed so why are you worried? There is other evidence you can use besides the police report to show what happened and whose fault it was. A personal injury lawyer should be able to do this for you.

Perhaps but for what purpose? If this is part of a personal injury case then your lawyer will investigate the matter and speak to any witnesses as well as the responding officer. In my State accident reports are not admissible as they are considered hearsay. You could even hire an accident reconstruction expert to offer an opinion on what happened and how. This can get expensive so there needs to be a good reason to do so.

Since you are not injured, and have gotten the ticket dismissed, you need to contact your insurance company and let them know. Give them whatever information they need. If the facts are far different from the police report, they may conclude the accident is not your fault, or they may use those facts to substantially reduce the amount they may pay.

No one is going to make the officer change the report if he/she does not want to change it. If you got a ticket contest it. It seems you have and the "charges: were dismissed. It seems you were vindicated. You give your version to your insurance company and they believe whom they want to believe. The police report is not the end all anyway. The police could very easily have said you were not at fault and the insurance company reviewing the claim could have placed the blame on you. There is nothing "sacred" about a police report. What do they know they were not even there?
