The marriage would not be a legal valid marriage under these circumstances. If you hold yourself out as being clergy and you are not, and you are taking people's money and offering a service you are not legally able to provide, I could foresee potential liability. That would be true, whether you are marrying gay or heterosexual people. It is a misdemeanor to marry ANYONE, without the actual legal authority to do so. MCL 551.15, which provides: "If any person shall undertake to join others in marriage, knowing that he is not lawfully authorized so to do, or knowing of any legal impediment to the proposed marriage, he shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction thereof shall be punished by imprisonment in the county jail not more than 1 year, or by a fine not less than 50 nor more than 500 dollars, or by both such fine and imprisonment, in the discretion of the court." For those who CAN legally marry someone, see here: http://www.legislature.mi.gov/%28S%28hno2wmwsnriqprzzvizeighb%29%29/mileg.aspx?page=getobject&objectname=mcl-551-7 James Frederick
