Insurance company will not total my vehicle after flood damages, what to do?

Business 3 views 3 answers
My vehicle received flood damage, my insurance company believes that only the carpet needed replacing. Dealership I bought the car from inspected my vehicle and they believe nothing is wrong mechanically after routine checks. My problem is that flood damage repair will be reported on my vehicle history dropping my vehicle's value. Should my insurance company take this into consideration especially since the effects of water damage may not appear until at a later time?

Yes they should be that is considered a diminution in value claim which you may or may not be able to pursue depending on your contract of insurance. Best wishes

The measure of damages in Kentucky is the difference between the fair market value of your vehicle immediately before and immediately after the flood damage occurred. In order to establish a diminution in value claim you will need to provide some sort of statement or affidavit from a qualified car salesman or appraiser as to what he believes the effect will be on the car's resale value. Good luck.

The only damage to your car as a result of the flooding is damage to the carpet and insurance company is replacing that. Unless there is some unusual provision within your insurance policy under the comprehensive coverage clause I seriously doubt there's much you can do other than to let them repair the carpet or replace the carpet.
