My F1 visa is expiring. Can I travel 1 month before it expires?

Hi, My F1 visa will expire on August 1st, 2010. I'm planning to travel outside US for 1 month and will return on June 30th, 2010 (about 1 month before the visa expire). Will there be any problem at the US port of entry when I return? Will the immigration officer at the airport let me enter US? As far as I know, the expiration date on my visa is the last day I can enter US (until I apply for the new one). Is this true? -I've been studying in the US under F1 visa for 5 years, and I haven't gone anywhere outside US in this 5 year period- Thank you.

You are correct. The visa is an entry document only, and it is valid for that purpose until it expires. The visa does not guarantee that the student will be readmitted. She must also be enrolled full time in an approved school and be listed as active in the SEVIS database, with an unexpired I-20 form. You should check with your school's DSO (designated school official) before travelling, and ask if the DSO can annotate your I-20 for travel purposes. Scott D. Pollock Scott D.
