My ex husband will not sign it so that we can cash it. It is $300. Is this check legitamate? I have phoned the number 888-953-9095 for details. I have until 4/30/15 to cash the check and it is too late now to have the check split between our names.

Based on the information you have provided, it would be impossible to determine whether the check was legitimate. It sounds like a settlement check for a class action lawsuit, which you would have only been a party to after having received written notice to opt in or opt out. If that doesn't sound familiar, then it may not be legitimate. Also, if cashing that check requires you to provide anything other than a signature, then it may not be a legitimate check. In other words, don't provide them with your social security number, date of birth, or account number. In fact you should not run that check through your bank account. If you want to try and cash it, take it to the bank it is drawn on and cash it there. They will probably charge you a fee, but at least that way your bank account won't be connected to the cancellation marks on the back of the check.

I have seen these before and they are for a national settlement. They are legit. Let me guess - you had a Bank of America loan?

hard to say for certain but it sounds like a class action settlement draft. Here is a link that you may find helpful: http://www.rustconsulting.com/How_Can_We_Help_You/Class_Action_Settlements
