Someone stole my immigration identity

Immigration 3 views 3 answers
I came to this country as a refugee. When I got here, my aunt who arranged for me to come took away a ALL my immigration documents and then she changed my name. I did not have anything. I came when I was 14 in 2007. I finally met a lawyer who helped me get my refugee docs. I filed for my green card and work permit. Immigration denied me saying I already got my green card in 2012. I did not. My aunt sold my immigration identity to someone else. What do I do now!????? I am helpless and frustrated.

When you were registered as a refugee you would have had your fingerprints taken. These prints can be compared to the ones for the person using your identity. This needs to be addressed as whoever has you identity can cause a full range of issues. Also, anyone who partook in the selling of immigration documents can be charged with a Federal crime and do Fed time.

For a person to obtain a green card they had to have biometrics done. It would have been difficult for them to claim to be you. the first step in this process would be to request your entire file from the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services doing a Freedom of Information Act request. An immigration attorney may assist you in obtaining these records and analyzing them to explore your options.
