I received permanent residence from Cuba in the muriel boat lift. I would like to get my citizenship now...it's been many years

I hear that I can get it for free, but online it looks like there is a fee for naturalization. Is there something special for immigrants from Cuba in the 80s that makes naturalization free? Where can I find information on this?

There is a fee waiver generally available for low-income people applying for natz: http://www.uscis.gov/i-912

Unfortunately, there is not. However, as my colleague mentioned there is a fee waiver as long as your household income is below the Federal Poverty guidelines. The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services recently began accepting credit cards for the naturalization process. Good Luck!

You may be able to apply for a fee waiver if you have low income, are receiving means tested benefits, or can prove that you are undergoing economic hardship. Consult with an experienced immigration lawyer whether one of these criteria apply to you.
