my friend came in Houston with f1 visa but he failed to go to school so he is out of status since 11 months. Most of people said that once his visa is expired , immigration service could send him a deportation letter at his home address, That's is possible? thank you

Your friend is in violation of the F-1 status and he can be issued a Notice to Appear before the immigration court.

Yes, it can happen. Especially since he is a student with SEVIS registration he is more likely to be placed in removal proceedings.
