The quickest and easiest thing is for you to hire a lawyer to take over and finish the rest of the matter. There will have to be a determination that he is the father and that you should be the residential parent. That can be done usually by a private attorney or sometime by your local prosecutor's office. Once paternity is determined the court will set child support for the child. You can expect that he will want some visitation but that is not always true. Your attorney can help with that.

First, Florida no longer uses the term "custody." We now have "parental responsibility" and "time sharing." If you were never married to the father, you are the only legal parent. He has no rights. He has to go to court to get any rights to the child.

Mr. Mullaney is 100% correct. No need to do anything unless father files petition for paternity.
