Should I fight this traffic ticket?

I received a ticket for "failure to yield at a stop sign." I did t-bone somebody and we got into an accident, but nobody was hurt. I was trying to make a left turn. I looked left (no cars) looked right (no cars) and I looked left again and saw no cars. So I went for it but then the car that I hit came out of nowhere. There are also cars parked along the side of the road that blocked the car coming (therefore I couldn't see him). It's a $331 ticket. Should I fight this? I did stop and I did yield, but the cars parked along the side of the road hid the other driver as I was trying to make my left turn.

"Should I fight this ticket?" Depends on a number of things. How many points within the past two years do you currently have on your drivers license. Collect 12 points within a 2 year period and your drivers license gets suspended for 6 months. If you have 10 points now, fighting (i.e., delaying resolving this case) may end up having s couple of older points drop-off in the meantime. Something to consider. INSURANCE!! I hop you had coverage. If YES, then #1 notify your insurance company immediately. They'll cover the damages to the other vehicle (and perhaps to your too). If the you can prove to the prosecutor that the other driver (of the damaged vehicle) has been fully compensated for the damage you caused, then there exists the possibility that he might allow an amendment to you r charge to a zero-point, non-moving violation. Quite frankly, call an attorney who practices in the location of where your court case is, and get his advice if the above is possible/likely/unlkely. And if unlikely, sign the ticket and send in the waiver amount. Mark Gardner

You should consult with a local attorney to discuss your options. Many factors can come into play such as did you have insurance (I hope you did), how many points are on your license. Also, you should talk to an attorney about the benefits of a no contest plea since there was an accident and the potential for civil liability.

I use to be a prosecutor. I doubt that the parked car defense will help much. You pulled out and hit the other car while making your turn. I hope you have insurance. Get a lawyer. Cut a deal to avoid points. Don't worry about the fine money. You can always earn more money. Protects your license. Try to work out a plea to avoid points. Ask your lawyer about a driving school in lieu of taking the points.
